Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of COS based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these Biblical doctrines.
God
We believe in one true and living God revealed in three persons:
the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Genesis 1:1,26, 27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14.
We believe that God, our Heavenly Father, is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or do. Our God is infinitely bigger than any difficulty we face and our hope is entirely in the one who created and sustains the universe.

Jesus
We believe that Jesus is the one and only Son of God.
He is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit.
He lived a sinless life and gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice
for our sins. We believe that Jesus died
on the cross for our sins, was physically resurrected,
ascended to heaven and will return to earth.
Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; Hebrews 4:14-15; Romans 1:3-4

Salvation
We believe that salvation is a gift of God's grace. However, we are not saved simply by believing God exists. Many people claim to believe in some form of God. We are not saved if our good deeds outnumber our bad deeds. We are not saved because we were brought up in a religious family. We are not saved by participating in religious activities, like going to church, prayer or just because we were baptized. We are saved by grace through faith when we trust Jesus Christ and His work on the cross as
sufficient for our sin. We believe that life change and transformation come through a relationship with Jesus Christ alone.
Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1; 10:9-10

Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity and is coequal with the Son and God the Father. He is alive and present in every believer and provides the believer with power, guidance, and spiritual understanding for following Jesus Christ. He equips the believer with gifts to be used in ministry and draws people to the knowledge of Christ.
Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 3:17; John 14-16; Galatians 5:25; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18.
We believe that through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, God has equipped us with the ability to live, serve and become the person He created us to be.
Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 3:17; John 14-16; Galatians 5:25; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18.

Bible
It is God's authoritative revelation of spiritual truth. We believe that all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is relevant for our everyday life.
2 Timothy 3:16, 1:13; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105, 160.
2 Timothy 3:16, 1:13; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105, 160.
Baptism
We believe that baptism is the response to the command of Christ. It is the first step a person should take after trusting in Christ for salvation. It is an outward symbol of an inward work.

Eternity
People were created to exist forever. We will live forever somewhere. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. We believe that heaven and hell are real places.
John 3:16, 14:6; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9

Communion
We believe and practice "open communion" where everyone is encouraged to participate as the Spirit leads. You do not need to be a member to participate. Communion is served periodically throughout the year and always encouraged in our small groups. Our passion at COS is to preserve the UNITY of the church. We will focus on the essentials and we will exercise freedom on the non- essentials.
